Following the very successful QM10, the larger floorstanding QM60 takes a similarly unique approach to overcome room acoustic challenges, and further push performance limits on all fronts.
Like the QM10, the QM60 is very precisely tuned for close-wall placement. The specifications spells it out very clearly – the speaker is to be placed between 40 to 70cm, from the tweeter to the rear wall, toed-in. This precise positioning, coupled with designer Ingvar Ohman’s one-of-a-kind crossover which counters the detrimental effects of wall reflections, results in a sonic performance that is simply extraordinary.
With the QM60, the team at Guru focused on creating a wider-band speaker with a response from 20Hz upwards, achieving more accurate reproduction of timbre, lower distortion as well as improved capability to reproduce complex waveforms with a high accuracy. The custom-designed QM60 tweeter is a high efficiency unit with stable impedance characteristics to minimizes power compression as well as distortion. The low and mid frequencies are handled by a single wide-band mid/bass driver, also a custom design by Guru.
This is an exceptional single driver handling frequencies from below 20 Hz and up to over 7 kHz – very high demands indeed on any driver. It’s capability for flawless mid range clarity even when complex music signals are handled simultaneously with long stroke action in the low frequency range results in a superbly coherent and dynamic sound.
All drivers are custom-made, with the tweeter resting in a precise waveguide. The bass driver is capable of sub-30Hz performance. The front baffle is a classy black with a soft sheen, and the Zebrano wood veneer wraps beautifully around the curved corners behind. The Swedes do have an eye for elegant, simple lines!
