A very happy Emerald Physics CS2 owner
Hi Ray,
Many thanks for making so many trips to my place and taking the time to get the speakers to respond correctly with my living room.
The Emerald Physics CS2 speakers are indeed an amazing piece of work. I have heard many speakers in my lifetime and I can tell you that not many speakers excite me anymore. To be ‘excited’ by these unassuming looking speakers speaks volumes about the CS2. It replaced my speakers costing more than 3 times as much.
The last few weeks with the Emerald Physics have given me a pretty good understanding of its sound. It is a very ‘LIVE’ sounding speaker. It reveals fine details in the recording not many speakers can. Heard things I swear I never heard before. At exactly 1 minute 13 seconds into the track ‘Old Folks’ from Miles Davis’ Someday my Prince Will Come album, I could hear a distinct squeak of his wooden chair as Miles shifted in his chair while playing. It was eerie to say the least.
The speakers are very revealing so much so that ancillary equipment and cables are not spared if they are not up to scratch. And this can be a double edged sword. Cables CAN make or break these speakers. I ultimately settled with copper interconnects by P.I.T and “Abbey Road” Reference speaker cables which are basically also copper with just a few strands of silver.
The CS2 excels in live music, small scale and large. It is equally comfortable with acoustic guitars on Al Di Meola’s “Friday Night Live in San Francisco” or belting out rock concerts. Initially I was afraid that string tone may suffer for fast transducers like these, but my fears were unfounded. Solo violins were rendered in a sinewy and sweet tone. Mass strings were a tinge strident at this stage, perhaps because the speakers are not fully broken in.
All in all I am extremely happy with these modestly priced speakers. These speakers deserve to be heard. I’m glad I did.
All the best,
Yong
